Putting the :D in DV!

That’s Domestic Violence, for those concerned. Anyways…I LOVE TAYUTAMA! I LOVE YOU MASHIRO!

In between my periods of playing Persona 4, I decided to try and widen my multitasking. While in the middle of maxing out my Social Links, I was also finishing some of my papers and reading from various textbooks on World Literature at the same time (don’t ask). So I decided to go and try out Tayutama as well. It almost made me drop everything I was doing in reckless abandon, hahaha.

Tayutama -kiss on my deity- is Lump of Sugar’s latest work, released this July 11, 2008. Lump of Sugar’s previous works include Nursery Rhyme and Itsuka, Todoku, Ano sora ni, two titles that are pretty good – though admittedly the second one has too much complex kanjis and such long hours of gameplay that I haven’t even finished the prologue yet (ye gads). As with Lump of Sugar’s games, it’s packaged together with awesome music, great graphics, and awesome interface. It also has a great cast of characters, from the insanely robust and my pace Ameri, to the yamato nadeshiko Mashiro whose training results in nothing less than complete beatdowns for Yuuri (with a hammer that would make Guy of GaoGaiGar proud), the unbelievably overreactive Yumina whose tsurupettan complex causes her to ramble on and on in absolutely hilarious ways, and lastly the completely tsundere ojousama Mifuyu (who is voiced by Shizuka Itou, no less).

The story starts off with Yuuri attending to Ameri’s broken-down motorcycle, then later leads to the group meeting up with Mashiro after a sequence of unnatural events that are worth going through, so I won’t bother mentioning them here. Suffice to say though that watching out for every character’s apperance is worth it, as the voice actors are so lively and full of enthusiasm for their performance so much that it really makes their roles come alive. Every scene is worth seeing just to listen to the characters speak about what’s going on and have the scene perfectly manifest itself in your mind.

In connection, the seiyuus really did a great job in Tayutama -kiss on my deity-. Norio Wakamoto does a great job at voicing Yuuri’s father, while the heroines’ seiyuus all fit their characters and roles perfectly. Every one of them is able to bring their respective characters to life every time they start speaking with or without textbox dialogue. Yep, characters speak even when their dialogue isn’t available on the textbox, much like Sakura Strasse’s (as it was the first game I encounted that feature in), which can add to the hilarity or the pace of the event. Also, it has Persona 3-style cut-ins! Not that it’s a major factor, but it is rather cute. I also love the look of the interface and how it shows you the profiles of the four heroines when clicking through menus.

I’ve still yet to progress very far into the game, in fact I’ve just reached in the part where Mashiro joins Yuuri in attending school, but oh man, so far I already love it. Here’s to Tayutama!

First and most importantly, YOU DO NOT MESS WITH THE GIRL WITH THE GOLDION HAMMER. YOU SIMPLY DON’T.
There, got it out of my system. :D

Indeed, from what I saw, how the characters were introduced made me fall in love with them the first time and every succeeding time I saw them. Ameri’s “near” overreaction upon seeing Yuuri amidst a smoking motorcycle shed (well, anyone would think that the Yuuri died in an explosion as loud and smoky as that) and Yumina’s cute “bewildered” looks (she just looks so adorable when she’s flustered, also that thing about her adoption)….

And yeah, I immediately picked out THE VOICE OF GOD the moment he started talking. Sure feels weird hearing him in a game, not in an anime series.

Looking forward to seeing Mashiro as well. I swear, her voice is barely above a whisper. ^___^

A, yet another girl that likes to beat the crap out of people with her hammer…

Why do I feel that I really like these kind of girls? Kaoru from City Hunter and now this chick, Mashiro?

I do want to play. Must reach for download and install button along with the so neat translations package.

haha, I probably felt the same way when I started playing this game. Love every character immediately though, I still have problems adapting to Yumina’s crying/screaming voice but, that ain’t much of a problem. Either way, I have only read Yumina’s and Amelie’s endings so far and they both have been pretty good though, I like Amelie’s story over Yumina’s but, Yumina’s ending was more, fulfilling?, than Amilie’s in my opinion.

    This game clearly deserves investigation….. if I weren’t so tasked with other cases!!!!! ;___;

@Johnishida: Yumina’s screaming voice is awesome! It’s the same seiyuu who voiced Ogiue from Genshiken! That gives it an automatic disregard to all negative feedback! =P

I’ve only gotten to the first cg of the “rabu rabu” kiss between Mashiro and Yuuri in front of Ameri’s face (LOL). But I have to give props to Lump of Sugar for really pulling out all the stops in terms of presentation. I also thought that the Persona-esque cut-ins and the textless conversations in the background were a nice touch and really enhanced the experience. Those little title bars that pull in during music track changes were a nice add-on to letting me know the names of the songs I particularly enjoyed like Tsukue to Isu to Kokuban no Nioi. For some reason, it reminded me of the school theme in Persona 3.

Man, first Horo from Spice and Wolf, then Mutuki from Inakoi, and now Mashiro. Do I have a fox fetish? 0_o

You’re not alone there, comrade. :D
BTW, you might have forgotten about Chizuru. Out of all the kitsune (or similar beings), she’s probably the most… daring and aggressive…

woo yeah -_-” after playing through all the routes its well quite fine but for me it didnt have the impact about it… i might still be feeling the FA wanderlust… -_- on how epic the real ending was -_-” PS: once you see Nue there is no coming back XD she makes mifuyu’s route enjoyable

meganeshounen: Ameri is awesome. As for Norio Wakamoto, his performance startled me for a bit, but he’s awesome to listen to. He’s really into his character, judging by how he voices his role! And Mashiro, well, you either have the volume turned down, or you’re listening to her kid form speaking. Her adult form is really nice to listen to…especially when she gets all pumped up during the training sessions. That’s what made me fall for Mashiro!

    manga: Girls with hammers win.

johnishida: Good for you that you’ve already gotten two endings! I’m thinking of going for either Mifuyu’s or Mashiro’s ending first, depending on who can totally win me over. Right now Mashiro’s leading by quite a huge margin. As for Yumina’s crying/screaming voice, I don’t know…it’s never really bothered me that much. In fact, I find it rather hilarious when she uses it in tandem with her ramblings.

Mister Merryweather: Hahaha, the kiss scene! I actually stopped at that moment, then double-checked myself before realizing that it was totally awesome. Yeah, Lump of Sugar really pulled no punches with Tayutama! The Persona-escque cut-ins are awesome, and so are the textless conversations, as they really help increase the immersion factor for the reader. Also, don’t sweat it if you have a fox fetish. Surprisingly enough, the only fox girls that I like are all from eroges, hahaha.

Algester: Well, I still have yet to finish the game before I can judge it’s impact on me, so I can’t say anything about that. But it’s really quite fun, at least for me.
